Work-related stress is considered to be one of the primary psychosocial disorders. According to figures collected by OMSTAD, 11 percent of men and 21 percent of women working for French companies present symptoms of pathological stress. Yet, not all stress is bad, and employers are not necessarily to blame for stress in their employees.
Eric Albert and Laurence Saunder have drawn an accurate portrait of work-related stress which does away with clichés and caricatures. They emphasize the need to precisely measure real stress in each organization before crafting preventive or remedial action. In particular, they explain how to identify what they call “pockets of stress overload,” that is, groups of employees with the same characteristics who all present potentially dangerous stress levels. Once this has been done, employers can then establish targeted action plans to relieve stress and develop systems to prevent it in the future.
This book is a methodical and practical guide.
