More than just a technical problem, crisis management and the art of preparing for crises are a state of mind. Ian Mitroff, internationally respected expert in this arena, consequently does not offer a list of best practices, but rather general recommendations designed to shape our conception of crises and – only later – our way of reacting to them.
The author strongly emphasizes the emotional side of crises and the need to take this into account, particularly in the manner in which we prepare ourselves to cope. Readers will be greatly interested by chapters 2 and 7, devoted to these aspects and illustrated by the example of Benetton Turkey, among others. The developments in chapter 3 on the complexity of the modern world and the resulting rise in the number of crises, short and to the point, are also among the sections to consult first. To this list we would also add the viewpoint of the author on the organization needed to prevent crises, presented in chapter 6.
