[The Paths of Simplicity]
Why—and especially, how—can simplicity be put back at the heart of the company? This book gathers contributions from professionals coming from very diverse universes: astrophysicist, designer, philosopher, HR director, farmer, industrial manager, consultant… Their diverse perspectives form an original work, halfway between an essay and a management manual. Starting from the observation that our organizations, through their desire to control uncertainty, have weighed themselves down with rules and procedures, it warns of this trend’s perverse effects: frictions, circumvention of rules, disengagement of teams, etc. It argues for a refocusing on real needs and the fundamentals of the collective. The book begins by shining a light on the cultural and organizational forces that make simplicity so difficult to preserve, before exploring several avenues for rehabilitating it. Some are based on a restored trust between people, others on a more frugal form of ingenuity. A stimulating read, from which each reader will be able to draw approaches adapted to their own context.
