Based on historical reflections and thorough case analyses, this book sheds very instructive light on the relationship between national culture and management, through a comparison of the U.S., France and Holland.
The book is organized into three main sections, which are each devoted to one country. Each section is then subdivided into three parts: a detailed description of a field study in a factory that is very similar to the plants studied in the other two countries in terms of the type of production and equipment, a historical perspective, and implications for management. France is the subject of the largest section – over one hundred pages – compared to about seventy for the U.S. and about forty for Holland. The lengthy preface in the paperback edition and the conclusion describe general lessons about the relationship between culture and management.
