Originally published in 2018 by two Accenture executives, this book has become a reference on the human-machine collaboration within organizations. It introduces the concept of “missing middles”: those new roles to be invented, where humans and AI combine forces to create value. It also proposes the MELDS (Mindset, Experimentation, Leadership, Digital Core, Skills) framework for structuring a successful implementation of AI. This new edition, published in September 2024 and enriched by the contributions of generative AI, refines the analysis by function (marketing, finance, HR, etc.) and by sector (healthcare, industry, services, etc.). Rich in concrete examples and operational advice, the book offers a precise mapping of the uses, benefits and managerial challenges associated with AI. It is aimed at both the leaders driving the AI transformation and the managers in the field looking to leverage it to boost their team’s performance.
