Corporate Universities

REGARDS CROISÉS SUR LE MANAGEMENT DU SAVOIR (DIFFERENT TAKES ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT)

Vers les universités d'entreprise (Toward corporate universities)
Laurent Saussereau and Franck Stepler
Editions d'Organisation, 2002, 308 pages.

Corporate universities play a growing role in management performance. This book attempts to provide an overview of this phenomenon, aimed specifically at those who are wondering whether and how to provide their organization with such a vehicle.

The book is laid out in an original format, particularly adapted to the subject at hand. In line with the principle behind the new Regards croisés (Different takes) series published by Editions d’Organisation, it tackles the subject from three different angles: a theoretical and methodological approach, company examples and expert opinions. The first angle provides the general context and guidelines for operating a corporate university, and in particular, several methodological aids for managers working on this topic. A second angle is provided by detailed 10-page descriptions of eight corporate universities (Accor, LVMH, Thales, etc.). Finally, this panorama is completed by interviews with a varied panel of experts (historian, coach, sociologist, distance learning expert, etc.).

This book is not meant to be read in one sitting, but rather to serve as a reference to help readers think about this phenomenon and answer their questions on the topic.

Laurent Saussereau is the founder and member of the board of ICAD (EM Lyon Group). Franck Stepler is a journalist.
